Stay informed about guest activity with real-time alerts
Stay informed about guest activity even when you're not in the app. Guestar sends push notifications for important events.
Enabling Push Notifications
Desktop Browsers
- Log in to Guestar
- Click the bell icon in the header
- Your browser will ask permission to show notifications
- Click Allow
You'll now receive notifications on your desktop when important events occur.
Mobile (Add to Home Screen)
For the best mobile experience, add Guestar to your home screen:
iPhone (iOS 16.4+):
- Open Guestar in Safari
- Tap the Share button
- Tap Add to Home Screen
- Open the app from your home screen
- Enable notifications when prompted
Android:
- Open Guestar in Chrome
- Tap the menu (three dots)
- Tap Add to Home screen or Install app
- Open the app from your home screen
- Enable notifications when prompted
What Triggers Notifications
New Guest Messages
Receive alerts when guests send messages to properties you have access to.
Low Confidence Alerts
When Guestar isn't sure about a response and needs your help.
Upsell Opportunities
When a guest shows interest in early check-in, late check-out, or extensions.
Escalations
When Guestar tells the guest it will "check with the team" - meaning you need to follow up.
Notification Badge
On supported devices, the Guestar app icon shows a badge with your unread message count:
- Updates in real-time
- Clears as you read messages
- Works on iOS (16.4+), Android, and some desktop browsers
Notification Preferences
Disabling Notifications
Click the bell icon again to manage your notification subscription. You can disable push notifications while keeping email alerts active.
Per-Device Settings
Notifications are per-device. If you use Guestar on your phone and laptop, you'll need to enable notifications on each device separately.
Team Notifications
Each team member controls their own notification preferences. Notifications respect property assignments - agents only receive notifications for their assigned properties.
Troubleshooting
Not receiving notifications?
- Check browser permissions - Go to browser settings and ensure Guestar is allowed to send notifications
- Check device settings - On mobile, ensure notifications are enabled for your browser or the Guestar app
- Re-subscribe - Click the bell icon to unsubscribe, then subscribe again
- Check Do Not Disturb - Ensure your device's DND mode isn't blocking notifications
Notifications delayed?
Push notifications are typically instant, but may be delayed by:
- Poor internet connection
- Device battery saver mode
- Browser background restrictions
