Getting Started
Set up Guestar in under 30 minutes with this step-by-step guide
Get Guestar up and running in 4 simple steps. Most users complete setup in under 30 minutes.
Step 1: Connect Your PMS Account
Guestar integrates directly with your property management system to access your properties, conversations, calendars, and reservations. We currently support Hostaway and Hostify.
Hostaway:
- Log in to your Hostaway account
- Go to Settings → API → API Credentials
- Copy your Account ID and API Key
- Enter these credentials in Guestar during signup or in Settings → Integration
Hostify:
- Log in to your Hostify account
- Go to Settings → API
- Copy your API Key
- Enter it in Guestar during signup or in Settings → Integration
Note: Guestar only reads your data and sends messages on your behalf. It cannot modify reservations, pricing, or property settings in your PMS.
Step 2: Review Your Properties
Once connected, Guestar automatically imports all your properties from your PMS.
- Go to the Properties page
- You'll see all your listings with their current status
- AI messaging is disabled by default - you'll enable it after setup
Step 3: Teach Guestar About Your Properties
Before enabling AI, teach Guestar the details it needs to answer guest questions accurately.
For each property, click Property Info and fill out:
- Property Basics: Address, bedrooms, bathrooms, max guests
- Access & Arrival: Check-in method, WiFi password, parking instructions
- Amenities: Pool, AC, kitchen equipment, special features
- House Rules: Quiet hours, pet policy, smoking rules
- Local Info: Restaurants, attractions, transportation options
- Emergency Contacts: Local contacts for urgent situations
Tip: The more detail you provide, the better Guestar handles guest questions. You can always add more later.
Step 4: Enable AI Messaging
Once you've added property information (at least 50% complete), you can enable AI messaging:
- Go to Properties
- Find your property
- Toggle AI Messaging to ON
Guestar will now respond to guest messages for this property automatically.
What Happens Next
- New messages: Guestar responds within seconds
- Low confidence: If unsure, Guestar alerts your team instead of guessing
- Upsells: Configure upsell settings to let Guestar offer early check-in, late check-out, and extensions
Quick Checklist
- Connected your PMS account (Hostaway or Hostify)
- Reviewed imported properties
- Added property information for at least one property
